Ok so lots going on with cryptocurrency lately.
Keanu Reeves is laughing at interview questions about NFTs:
But a lot of others are deriding NFTs as well. Some people are also “anti-blockchain!”:
Like, ok.
“No thanks.”
So the dislike of NFTs has become a kind of fashionable activism of the moment. Is this about energy efficiency, does it matter whether the Ethereum network upgrade planned for July will be effective in heavily reducing the power footprint of each NFT?
I suspect the real reasons for this NFT backlash in certain corners of the Internet have to do with the much-discussed “tech-lash” where disenchantment with the technology industry is looking for outlets. And some people just want to miss the point of the technology and hate on it like it’s supposed to be the way they want:
Uhh, ok, whatever.
But then, Budwesier is issuing NFTs. And so are some gaming companies:
So while there are fans of NFTs there are many dead-set against them. But another angle on cryptocurrency is the question of where it falls on the political left and right. I haven’t given as much thought to this issue as some commentators out there but I do think this point by Nicole Dobrow is valid:
Maybe there’s already some kind of anti-crypto sentiment on a lot of the left? It seems to be comedy fodder:
Well, ok? I don’t know. People are taking emphatic stands on the issue though:
It’s a crowded field and it helps to invoke vivid imagery in your crypto denunciation:
